🌀 Hurricane Track Playback
Replay real Atlantic hurricanes from NOAA's best-track record. Storm position, intensity and wind-field size come from the official 6-hourly data, and the storm is drawn at true geographic scale.

Data: NOAA National Hurricane Center HURDAT2 Atlantic best track (file hurdat2-1851-2025-092326). That covers positions, maximum sustained wind, minimum pressure, landfall records, 34/50/64-kt wind radii by quadrant and, from 2021 on, the radius of maximum wind.
Positions between the 6-hourly fixes are interpolated.
Forecasts: the official NHC forecast in effect at each moment (OFCL, from NHC's ATCF a-deck archive ), shown from about 3 hours after its synoptic time, when the advisory was published. The cone is rebuilt from those forecast points using the cone radii NHC published for that season (2005 storms use the earliest archived table, from 2007); NHC's own cone graphics may differ slightly in shape. Dotted lines join each forecast point to where the storm actually was at that time. "Day-3 miss" is the distance between the 72-hour forecast position and the best-track position. The cloud pattern is a stylized rendering rather than satellite imagery: its size comes from the storm's 34-kt wind radius and its eye from the radius of maximum wind (estimated from intensity before 2021). It turns counterclockwise, as Northern Hemisphere storms do.
